If you play PC, PS2, X-box, Gameboy or just about ANY video game you've heard of Electronic Arts (EA).  Here is what EA.com says about Electronic Arts:

Electronic Arts (EA) is the world's leading independent developer and publisher of interactive entertainment software for personal computers and advanced entertainment systems such as the PlayStation®2 Computer Entertainment System, the PlayStation®, Xbox™ video game console from Microsoft, the Nintendo GameCube™ and the Game Boy® Advance. Since its inception, EA has garnered more than 700 awards for outstanding software in the U.S. and Europe.

EA markets its products worldwide under four brand logos and has over 33 product franchises that have reached more than a million unit sales worldwide.

If you are a player of The Sims Online or Ultima Online, pay attention, heed the warnings - consider finding another online community to join.  It is highly likely that your game will be killed in a like manner by EA...the company's track record is very poor.

What you do not know about EA

While EA controls nearly 20% of the Gaming Market - they repeatedly disappoint customers, providing substandard customer service, and failing to deliver the promised storylines and length of game playability on online MMORPG games.

EA has continually bought competitors out and then failed to promote those acquired games, thus effectively killing these games - and in the case of Online Games - while continuing to bill customers even though the failure of delivery of product as stated is known by EA .

  Victims of Acquisition by EA

  • Studio 33
  • Westwood Studios
  • Black Box Games
  • Bull Frog Publications
  • Dreamworks Interactive
  • Origin
  • ...probably more I cannot find documentation of.

These are the three "online" games EA has abandoned thousands of gamers through their untimely closure.  There might be more that I am not aware of.   In all cases, the stated reason was a need to focus resources on "new games".

Legends of Kesmai - still has a huge fan base

Motor City Online - shut down with 26,000 subscribers

Earth and Beyond - announcement of game to be shut down  on 9/22/04 - 25,000+ gamers paying  325,000+ in fees per month to play, some billed for 6 months (no refunds) 1-2 days prior to announcement

Petitions have been signed, rants posted, and letters sent by these players in all cases to no avail. EA will not even sell the game to another company.  These virtual communities are just destroyed and the games throw away.

The only thing that will effect EA is a fall in market share percent.  I think threats of boycotting EA and petitions fall on deaf ears.  This company needs to feel gamers distrust in the pocketbook.  Through an active boycott of EA games - purchasing, playing, as well as reviewing - the gaming community can make a stand that will be heard.  Sites that offer reviews of EA games need to be contacted and told of the growing distrust in the products offered by Electronic Arts.  Please join the thousands of abandoned fans of these games by completely boycotting EA.  Purchase games and subscribe to online games owned by companies other than EA.  Pack up the Cds of your EA games and send them with a letter (marked Personal on the outside) to:
